Sustainable Redevelopment

Old industrial centers can serve as models for sustainable development in the 21st century.

Members of HCI staff are certified as LEED Accredited Professionals by the Green Building Certification Institute. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is an internationally recognized green building certification system. Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, LEED provides building owners and operators a concise framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions.

HCI project managers help guide the reclamation and redevelopment process by recommending strategies aimed at improving performance across an array of environmental metrics.

Existing at the nexus of important infrastructure and in close proximity to major commercial markets,19th and 20th century industrial cities are well suited to become the testing ground for sustainable development strategies. These strategies include re-industrialization, renewable energy production, green housing, enhanced public transportation, and local sourcing of goods. Brownfield redevelopment projects will play a major part in this bright future.
